I am excited to have returned to making art after many years of following other paths. It has been five years now -- packed with explorations in oil painting, drawing the human body, and ventures into the fiber arts. Fabric collage and surface design intrigue me the most right now. Most of my artistic visions see their realization in this medium. My inspirations come from many directions: an evening listening to music, a trip out of town, or mental images from novels I read. The colors and shapes and feelings form themselves in my mind, and I have only to withdraw to my studio and realize them in visual form.
But my main inspiration comes from the worn and layered city in which I live and work. The crowded houses on the hillsides of Pittsburgh, the sunshine on brick, and the sights and sounds of the city at night.
My training includes a BA from Oberlin College, with a major in history (still a passion of mine), and a minor in studio art, and an MA from the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor in History of Art. I have taken numerous classes and workshops since then, in printmaking, painting, drawing, and the fiber arts.
I have shown in many group shows in the the Pittsbugh area, where I live with my husband, who is a photographer. We share a spacious and light-filled studio in a re-habbed building in Lawrenceville. I also enjoy the interaction with customers at various art fairs and festivals.
I am a member of the Associated Artists of Pittsburgh (AAP), Pittsburgh Society of Artists, and the Fiber Arts Guild of Pittsburgh.
